چکیده

Micromachined, micron-thick porous alumina membranes with closed pore endings show high electron transparency above an energy of 5 keV. This is due to the channeling of electrons along the negatively charged insulating pores after surmounting the thin entrance layer. We also find a sharp hightransparency energy window at energies as low as 2 keV which may be the result of a local maximum of channeling, as predicted by simulations, and positive charge up of the entrance layer causing electron electrostatic focusing. Applications for these membranes range from atmospheric electron spectroscopy to self-assembled, nanoscale, large-area electron collimators. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~00!04824-5#

Fabrication of nanomaterials using porous alumina templates

Nanofabrication by self-organization methods has attracted much attention owing to the fact that it enables mass production without the use of expensive lithographical tools, such as an electron beam exposure system. Porous alumina can be fabricated electrochemically through anodic oxidation of aluminum by means of such a self-organization method, yielding highly ordered arrays of nanoholes sev...

The effect of electron beam irradiation on the chemistry of molybdenum hexacarbonyl on thin alumina films in ultrahigh vacuum

The interaction of incident electron beams with molybdenum hexacarbonyl (Mo(CO)6) adsorbed on thin, dehydroxylated alumina films grown on a molybdenum substrate is studied in ultrahigh vacuum using primarily temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and reflection– absorption infrared spectroscopies (RAIRS). It is found that electron beams induce decarbonylation, forming both subcarbonyls and a s...

Experimental Investigation of the Thermal Performance of Vacuum Tube Solar Collectors (VTSC) Using Alumina Nanofluids

The enhancement of the thermal performance of Vacuum Tube Solar Collectors (VTSC) was studied by using alumina nanofluid as working fluid. VTSC is a simple and commonly utilized type of collector. This study established the heat transfer experimental model of all glass VTSCs used in a forced-circulation solar water heating system using alumina nanofluid as base fluid. Al2O3 (with an average par...

Structural analysis of anodic porous alumina used for resistive random access memory.

Anodic porous alumina with duplex layers exhibits a voltage-induced switching effect and is a promising candidate for resistive random access memory. The nanostructural analysis of porous alumina is important for understanding the switching effect. We investigated the difference between the two layers of an anodic porous alumina film using transmission electron microscopy and electron energy-lo...

Synthesis of Al2O3-ZrO2 Nanocomposite by Mechanical Activated Self-propagating High Temperature Synthesis(MASHS) and Ignited via Laser

By consideration of unique properties of composite Al2O3-ZrO2 such as high toughness, high wear resistant and relative low thermal expansion, in this study, nanocomposite of Al2O3-ZrO2 was produced by Mechanical activated Self propagating High-temperature Synthesis (MASHS) using laser beam for ignition. First Al and ZrO2 powders were mixed in the mole ratio of 1:1 and milled for 1, 3 and 6 hour...
